Principal search for Prairie Winds Elementary includes a photo of the school.

We recently shared that Prairie Winds Elementary School (PWES) Principal Rachel Sellers has accepted a new position with Aurora Public School District for the 2025-26 school year. We are deeply appreciative of her dedication and service to Prairie Winds Elementary School this past school year and wish her the best in her future endeavors.

As we prepare for the transition to a new principal, our process will intentionally involve Prairie Winds staff, parents, and students to help gather valuable input regarding leadership qualities that are most important for our new principal. Involving the entire PWES community will ensure a thorough, fair, and confidential selection process to identify our next school leader.

District and school leadership met with PWES staff on April 7 to provide details and answer questions about the process. Next, district and school leaders will engage in conversation with PWES families on April 11 to gather insight on what they would like to see in the school's new leader. Prairie Winds families are also invited to complete a short survey to share their thoughts.

As a next step, we will form a Principal Selection Advisory Committee consisting of approximately 7-8 staff members and 2-3 parents/guardians to work alongside district leaders.

We are planning to interview candidates in early May and to introduce our community to a new PWES principal at the Board of Education meeting on May 19.
