Child Welfare
The Director of Student Services serves as a Child Welfare Education Liaison. The child welfare education liaison collaborates with child placement agencies, county departments, the state department, and schools to ensure proper school placement, transfer and enrollment of foster children. The liaison works with all parties to ensure a foster child remains in an educational situation that promotes stability. The law also requires schools to transfer education records within five school days and that the receiving school admits these children within five days of receipt of a student’s records.
The Director also acts as the Homeless McKinney Vento coordinator. Under federal law any displaced child or youth who is living in a shelter, motel, inadequate trailer or house, is staying temporarily with relatives or friends due to economic hardship or loss of housing, or is living in any other homeless situation has educational rights under the McKinney-Vento Act. If you feel you know a student or are a student who qualifies under this act, please contact the Director at (719) 488-4700 for help.
