The doors of D38’s Home School Enrichment Academy (HSEA) opened on March 13 for a festival and Renaissance-themed showcase.

HSEA’s tradition of hosting an annual showcase goes back 10 years, and provides opportunities for students in all grades to demonstrate what they’ve learned in music, drama and art. This year’s showcase transported friends and family to another time and place.

Learners dressed the part as jesters, knights and royalty for performances in the gym to start the evening. Families were treated to a puppet show, medieval dances and melodic tunes played on the recorder.

Middle school and high school students showcased their talents with a guitar performance, fencing competition and short skits. “Our drama teacher gave us some short skits to choose from, so my friend, Juliet, and I are doing a little skit together tonight,” said Isabel Torres, seventh grader. “I do musical theater, so this is just something I really enjoy.”

Once the festivities in the gym ended, special guests retreated to another room where student artisans had more masterpieces on display. A little bit of science and discovery was sprinkled in with special displays too.

“We started our showcase event years ago with just displaying artwork,” shared Julie Jadomski, Principal of HSEA. “It’s grown, however, to display what our students are capable of doing through empowerment and exploration to help them reach their potential of becoming problem solvers and innovators.”
