D38 has royalty in its midsts, at least until May when Makena Norton graduates from Lewis-Palmer High School.
Norton learned recently that she would be named El Paso County Fair Queen after competing with two other finalists on Saturday, Feb. 26.
After battling it out in a competition with categories such as horsemanship, public speaking and personal interviews, Norton earned the top honor.
“Makena continues a legacy of influential women community leaders, and we all look forward to her taking on this role to promote the 2022 El Paso County Fair,” said El Paso County Commissioner Carrie Geitner.
The honor is the latest for Makena, who is involved in tutoring, student council, Poms, Interscholastic Equestrian Association, volunteer activities and more.
“I am beyond thrilled to have this amazing opportunity,” she said. “I am so honored to join these amazing women.”
Makena will help promote the 117th edition of the fair this spring and be around the fairgrounds when the fair unfolds this summer from July 16 through July 23.
