Forensics (Speech and Debate)
Forensics/Speech is designed to not only educate students in the basics of speech, theatre, and debate, but also to provide Lewis-Palmer High School with a competitive forensics team to compete in state and national events. Students will learn the ins and outs of debate (Public Forum and Lincoln Douglas) and speaking events (Original Oratory, Duo, Humorous, Dramatic, and Poetry Interpretation, and Extemporaneous Speaking). Throughout the course of the year, students will learn to enhance their critical thinking skills through analysis of current events, hone their research skills, develop effective, confident, public speaking skills, and appreciate the ethical considerations associated with persuasion.
We meet Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 3:00-5:00 p.m. in the Ranger Zone Loft. We start in August and end in March, and students are encouraged to come up anytime throughout the year (it's never too late to join).
