Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year at Bear Creek Elementary School!
Hello Bear Creek Families,
It is with great excitement that I welcome you to Bear Creek Elementary School! Bear Creek is a great place. Prior to coming to Bear Creek as principal, I have been a part of Bear Creek as a parent and community member. Three of my own students attended Bear Creek and one still attends here. Their experiences at the school and the successes, both academically and socially, that they had here is what drew me to serve as principal at BCES. It takes teamwork and communication to accomplish great feats and I look forward to working with the parents and community to help Bear Creek be the best learning environment that it can be for our students.
Over 750 students may seem like a large elementary school, but the staff, families, PTO, and our community do a great job keeping our school a tight-knit community. We believe in educating the whole child and building on their strengths in partnership with you. Our vision statement is Building Character, Educating Students (BCES). In addition to excellent academic programming and instruction, there are offerings in the arts, physical education, technology and guidance. Outside of that, we focus on developing relationships through Responsive Classroom and Character Counts to develop a more positive community within our school. We also have Leading Edge on campus that provides on-site before and after school care for families. More information can be found here.
There are many opportunities for you to become actively involved in our school and district committees. Please consider being a volunteer within the classroom/school, a substitute, or being an active member of our PTO (Parent Teacher Organization), or our Bear Creek Advisors (Building Accountability Advisory Committee). Also, watch for district committee offerings throughout the year that might interest you. Our PTO is low-stress and their fundraising provides us with many gifts, such as technology, field trips, staff support, fun community event opportunities, outdoor classroom, and playground additions. The Bear Creek Advisors meet regularly and provide feedback and input on various aspects of the school. I highly encourage families to consider attending a meeting for one or both of these great opportunities.
If you are looking to register for the new school year, please go to the district website and click on the Enrollment banner. Reach out to Jim Taylor, our district registrar, at 719-488-4700 should you need any assistance. You can’t go wrong with any elementary in our district, but if you choose Bear Creek, you won’t be sorry as not only does it hold a special place in my heart, but we’re a John Irwin School of Excellence!
With gratitude,
Donnell Potter
