Students across both Lewis-Palmer and Palmer Ridge High Schools took a total of 1,096 Advanced Placement (AP) exams in the 2022-2023 school year with 79.11% of exams netting a “3” or above score.
A major benefit to AP courses, which are free, and exams, which cost $96 to take, is that scoring at least a “3” on the test allows students to qualify for college credit. With a total of 876 passed exams qualifying for three college credits each, students generated just under $1 million in college credit value while still enrolled in high school.
“This is a great value for families, and we need to continue to find ways to ensure families know about our AP offerings,” said Dr. Michael Brom, D38 assessment coordinator. “We have a steady trend of students passing these exams, and we are grateful to see the number of exams taken, as well as the percentage of 3-and-above scores, rising.”
A total of 204 students earned scholar status, with 86 students earning AP Scholar status with an average score of 3.44 on their exams. Another 45 students earned AP Scholar with Honor status, with an average score of 3.83 on their exams. A total of 73 students across the district earned the highest honor, AP Scholar with Distinction, with an average score of 4.26 on their exams.
According to CollegeBoard, which governs AP courses and exams, 85% of selective colleges and universities report that a student’s AP experience has a positive impact on admission decisions.
