When Dillon Mezey, 10, isn’t actively engaged in Home School Enrichment Academy (HSEA) or other learning activities, he’s likely in the water, where he feels almost as at home as he does on the land.

Mezey is an avid swimmer, representing Falfins Swimming, and he enjoys any opportunity to get in the pool. And when he does, awards are sure to follow. Most recently, Mezey earned recognition from Colorado Swimming as Colorado Swimming’s (CSI) Disability Athlete of the Year.

“I love swimming,” Mezey said. “I started taking swim lessons at the Tri-Lakes YMCA when I was 5-years-old. I fell in love with the pool and learning the strokes. I then joined a swim team and loved the competition.”

According to Mezey, he’s swimming as many as four nights each week and engaged in as many competitions as he can. Moving into the future, Mezey is set to participate in the Paralympic Junior Nationals yet again, and he has lofty goals.

“I am aiming to get faster in my 50 Freestyle in swim, and break more records this summer,” he said.

While not in the pool, Mezey said he enjoys Lewis-Palmer School District 38’s HSEA program.

“I think HSEA is a ton of fun. I love the friendships I have made there! I have great teachers, and I enjoy my time every Thursday. My favorite part of my day is drama class.”
